YouTube has announced it’s shutting down its Trending page, which first launched in 2015, and replacing it with a more updated system. Since its start in 2005, YouTube has become one of the biggest platforms for watching videos, now attracting over 2.7 billion users each month. For the past decade, the Trending page has helped users discover viral videos by showing what was most popular across the platform.
But YouTube says that times have changed. In a July 10, 2025, update, they revealed that the old Trending page no longer gets much attention and doesn’t reflect how people discover content anymore. So, they’re retiring it in favour of something new: YouTube Charts.
When the Trending page launched, it made sense to show one big list of viral videos. But now, popular content varies by topic and community, and there are many different types of trends happening at once. To better reflect this, YouTube Charts will feature several lists based on categories, like music, gaming, movie trailers, and podcasts, rather than combining everything into one feed.
YouTube Swaps Out Trending Page for New Charts System
The current Trending page will still exist, but it’s being moved to a section called Trending Now, which highlights the most-watched videos overall. For gaming fans, the Gaming Explore page will showcase trending gaming videos.
YouTube says that this new setup will feel more natural, since most viewers already find videos through personalized suggestions on their homepage, subscriptions, and creator channels. You can still find non-personalized content in the Explore tab.
In short, YouTube is growing in how it shows trending content to better suit today’s diverse audience and the way people now browse the platform.
